Martinique Named Top Caribbean Destination
The French Caribbean island of Martinique has been named the top 2010 destination by the readers of About.com's Caribbean Travel site, beating out other leading contenders Dominica and St. Kitts and Nevis in a poll that garnered more than 3,800 votes!

Martinique got 38 percent of the votes cast, while Dominica received 26 percent to finish second and St. Kitts and Nevis got 26 percent. Seven other poll finalists trailed behind these three frontrunners.

Voters were enthusiastic in their support for Martinique, lauding its multihued beaches and French villages, culture, and people.

The 10 finalists for the poll were determined in a series of three preliminary polls: the top vote-getters moved into the final round. All voting was conducted online by readers of the About Caribbean Travel website, blog, Facebook fan page, and Twitter followers.

Congratulations to Martinique and thanks so much to everyone who made this poll a big success. Personally, I was happy to see the first 100 votes come in, so it's a bit overwhelming that the final poll got nearly 4,000. Just goes to show you how many Caribbean travel fans are out there, and I look forward to continuing to keep you informed about Martinique and all of the other great islands and destinations of the Caribbean!
