Afilias Limited, the ICANN-designated registry operator for the .INFO top level domain (TLD) and a global provider of domain registry services, today announced that it has acquired Registry Services Corporation (d.b.a. RegistryPRO), the ICANN-designated operator of the .PRO TLD, from Hostway Corporation.

This brings to 17 the number of top-level domains that Afilias supports, including seven generic TLDs (gTLD) operating under ICANN contracts and seven new TLDs launched since 2001.

Under the terms of the deal, Karim Jiwani will be the President of RegistryPRO and continue to spearhead .PRO growth initiatives, leveraging Afilias' technology.

Jiwani said, "I am excited that the .PRO domain will soon be able to take advantage of Afilias' market-leading registry services platform to give .PRO customers the best possible service. In the meantime, we'll be operating on a business-as-usual basis until the migration plan is complete."

Apple has announced that the iPhone 4S will be making its way to China and 21 other countries beginning next Friday, January 13th. The smartphone will reportedly launch on China Unicom just before the Chinese New Year, which will be celebrated on Monday, January 23rd. Pricing has not been announced in local currencies, but is listed as $199, $299 and $399 for the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models, respectively. Apple China is clearly the most notable of the bunch, but other countries include Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Botswana, British Virgin Islands, Cameroon, Cayman Islands, Central African Republic, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Grenada, Guam, Guinea Conakry, Ivory Coast, Jamaica, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritius, Niger, Senegal, St. Vincent and The Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos and Uganda. PR ranks 39 in global corruption index - Caribbean Business - 01/12/11

Puerto Rico ranks 39 in an annual corruption index released by Transparency International on Thursday. The report by the global watchdog organization scored 183 countries based on perceived levels of public sector corruption. The island, which was at 33 in 2010, trails four countries in the Caribbean ― Barbados (16), Bahamas (21), Saint Lucia (25), Saint Vincent & the Grenadines (36). New Zealand ranks first, followed by Europe's Scandinavian countries Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway, with the United States ranking 24th, two places lower than last year. Afghanistan - even ten years after the international community ousted the Taliban and established a massive military and civilian presence there - comes in 180th of the 183. Only North Korea and Somalia are deemed to be more corrupt. Other trouble spots fare equally badly in the survey, with Venezuela, Haiti, Iraq , Sudan and Myanmar being - in falling order - in the world's ten most corrupt countries. Venezuela's poor showing could boost efforts by the Puerto Rico government to lure businesses from that South American country, pitching the island's stable investment climate. Economic development officials in Puerto Rico have seized on President Hugo Chávez's drive toward socialism in Venezuela and has been aggressively courting companies in Latin American countries whose governments are considered unfriendly to business. Corruption inherently tends to be a shady business that is not easy to monitor, but Transparency International's corruption perceptions index is widely considered as an international benchmark. The index uses data from 17 surveys that look at factors such as enforcement of anti-corruption laws, access to information and conflicts of interest. Countries are scored from 0 to 10, or from highly corrupt to very clean. In 2011, two-thirds of ranked countries scored less than 5. Puerto Rico's score dipped to 5.6 from 5.8 a year ago. A country's rank indicates its position relative to the other countries/territories included in the index. A country's rank can change simply because new countries enter the index or others drop. It's official. Following a change in ascension rules, boy or girl, the first child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be the next heir to the British throne.

The leaders of the 16 governments with Queen Elizabeth II as their head of state have unanimously agreed to change the laws in their realms to allow this.

Under current laws, the immediate heir is the first-born son of the monarch. Going forward, the immediate heir will be the first-born child of the monarch.

That means if Prince William and Kate Middleton have a girl as their first child, she will be the future queen, regardless of whether one or more sons follow.

British Prime Minister David Cameron said, "Put simply, if the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were to have a little girl, that girl would one day be our queen."

Cameron personally applauded the move, adding that the UK stresses gender equality in all facets of life, making this a logical change to their traditions.

Queen Elizabeth II's son, Prince Charles, is next in line for the throne, followed by Will. The royal hunk will be the king of more than a dozen countries.

Those nations are Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Jamaica, Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Papua New Guinea, St. Christopher & Nevis, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Tuvalu, Barbados, Grenada, Solomon Islands, St. Lucia and the Bahamas.
